Anatomy of an Emergency - Emergency Response Tour

On Friday, May 29, the Managing Director’s Office of Emergency Management (MDO-OEM) hosted the City’s first Emergency Response Capabilities Tour. Communications, health and emergency management officials from the surrounding counties as well as medical officials from various hospitals and medical response agencies in the region toured Philadelphia’s emergency response facilities. Stops on the tour included Philadelphia’s  9-1-1 Call Center, the Police and Fire Dispatch Centers, Hazardous Materials and Mass Casualty Response Vehicles, the Medical Examiner’s Office as well as the Emergency Operations Center.

The tour is designed to provide emergency responders from our neighboring counties and the area hospitals with first hand knowledge of Philadelphia’s emergency response capabilities,” said MaryAnn E. Tierney, Philadelphia’s Deputy Managing Director for Emergency Management. “This will enhance the working relationships with our emergency response partners, so we can ensure timely action in the event of an emergency.”

The tour began with OEM’s Command Post 1 vehicle, the Fire Department’s Hazardous Materials Unit and Emergency Medical Services apparatus displaying their emergency equipment in the parking lot of the Wachovia Center.
